Lamar County continues to be one of the state’s fastest-growing communities.
Stores and businesses are continuing to grow in Lamar County.
Part of that mid-decade economic boom was caused by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The county’s population rose significantly from people relocating to Lamar County from areas affected by the devastating storm. The county received state and federal monies to aid in recovery and to help the county prepare for a similar event in the future, according to previous reports.
