When it comes to the southern staple we call the fish plate, Monroe Countians have decided that Stanford’s is the place to go.

Mississippi farm-raised catfish is delivered daily to Stanford’s where it’s deep fried to golden perfection.

“We cook our fish by feel, not time,” said co-owner Brad Stanford.

Stanford’s Drive-In Restaurant opened in 1973 as a partnership between Joe and Harold Stanford and was taken over by Joe’s son, Brad, in 1983. He married Kathy Stanford in 1991 and the two have been managing it ever since.

The gang at Stanford’s has been frying up fish the same way for the past 41 years, but won’t dare discuss the secret methods used. The award-winning plate also features Kathy’s homemade hushpuppies, homemade tartar sauce, slaw and fries.
