The county will sell the 3.51-acre strip of land to Ashley for $6,000. The land is a railroad spur that runs through property once owned by Lane Furniture Inds., which was part of Lane’s 830,000-square-foot facility that closed in 2014. According to a resolution, Ashley Furniture currently owns that property and the manufacturing facility.

The resolution stated that Ashley’s purchase of the property and the company’s “operation of the furniture manufacturing facility” located nearby “will stimulate the local economy, promote business, create permanent jobs in the county and lead to increased tax revenue.”

County supervisors also agreed to abandon a water easement running through the property now owned by Ashley, which no longer corresponds to any active water lines.

Ashley Furniture Inds. owns a upholstery manufacturing plant located in Ecru, Miss. It has manufacturing facilities in Mississippi, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, in addition to international locations.
